Las Vegas, Nevada (July 27th & 28th) Robb was on the bill to play The Rio in Las Vegas on July 27th and 28th for a 15,000+ annual conference celebrating its 20th anniversary (Robb's Bio from DefCon). Robb's first show at Rio's premier outdoor pool resort was the final act of the night. Perched atop the 50 foot stage and armed only with an acoustic guitar and vocals, Robb doled out his usual servings of unexpected rock and roll tunes and closed out the night with an amazing reception from the DefCon crowd.
On the second day, Robb chillaxed in the 'Chill' room and played a more muted set to a crowd of a few hundred in one of Rio's many ballrooms. Although his set was muted, a few higher-octane rock tunes somehow slipped out of his guitar (Seether's 'Remedy', for example) and folks didn't seem to mind...
To those who know little about DefCon, the badges to get into the conference is one of the many charming attributes. This year, the badges were as hi-tech as ever: basically a mini-computer hanging around your neck, complete with wireless capability. 'Artists', like Robb, were very few, so the Artist badge was a commodity in high demand. If a regular badge (15,000+) got very near an Artist badge (~50), great things happen for the holder of the regular badge. This arrangement worked out well for artists, who commonly got a hero's welcome amongst the masses.
So, besides playing to a horde at the Rio, Robb managed to pickup a few tips about cyber security (or insecurity), and picked up a few new tattoos. Robb is safely back in the arms of M1 and looking to rock the rest of 2012. Check their calendar for dates and times.
